Enhancing Curb Appeal: Exterior Painting in Plainfield, IN
In looking to get your home to have the most curb appeal as possible (the perceived value of your home from the perspective of someone walking by or even driving by on the street) there are a number of things that you’ll be able to do.
Painting your home is a great way to enhance the curb appeal, but without some basic guidance you may find that the project takes quite a long time and costs you a lot more money than you could ever anticipate.
With that being the case, let’s have a look at some tips for enhancing curb appeal with the exterior painting that will get your home looking better.
1. Use A Good Color
Though there are a lot of colors out there that are going to look perfectly fine, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are going to look fine on your house per se.
The colors in your neighborhood as far as other houses are concerned will play some role in determining what color or colors are going to be good for your house — you wouldn’t want to have a house that is painted the same color as the house across the street as it would make things look bad for both of you.
Similarly, it’s a good idea to just have a look at the nature in the surrounding area to think about how the color that you want to use will look interacting with these other colors in your area.
2. Cover Your Plants
While you may know well that the paint and primer that you are going to be applying to your home exterior is going to make it look really nice, what you should also consider is the effect that it could have on your plants if the paint and primer should spill upon them.
What you should do to protect your plants is to gently mist them with water so that they don’t dry out over the time that you have them covered and then cover them with a plastic sheet so that none of the paint or primer is applied to the house gets on them.
However, it’s also important to know that you shouldn’t be leaving your plants covered for long periods of time — uncover them when you’re not working on painting your home so that you don’t possibly cause long-term damage to the plants.
3. Take Care With The Weather
It’s certainly nice to think that we’re going to be able to paint the exterior of our home whenever we wish, but the reality is that there are circumstances which preclude us from doing so, and the weather is one such thing.
As a simple example, if you find that it is going to be raining outside it’s really not the best idea to be planning a painting project as you are going to have all kinds of painting issues related to the rain.
Similarly, when the weather is too hot or too cold that is not a good time to be painting — but rather you want to plan your painting project for when the weather is more temperate and the sky a bit overcast yet not raining so that your paint and primer do not dry too quickly or get ruined by the rain.
4. Clean Before You Paint
Lastly, you should always remember that the process of painting does not just automatically take care of any dirt or grime that may be present on the surface that is going to be painted, especially when you are painting the exterior of your home.
The best paint and primer in the world aren’t going to help the fact that you may not have painted in a long time and perhaps you haven’t cleaned the exterior of the house in an even greater period of time.
Though it may not seem like it’s not that big of a deal, trying to apply primer or paint to the exterior of a home that has not been cleaned in a good amount of time is going to produce the results of a house that looks like a dirty house with paint and primer applied to it and that’s not that good.
One of the best things that you can do for the painting of your home exterior is to first properly clean it and then make sure that the surface has fully dried before you move onto the next steps in the painting process.
